Pomum running TechTool Deluxe's volume repair

Looks like it might be the magical second time for Pomum and drive deaths. Last night, just when Ellen clicked to show my high score list in Quinn, the drive started thrashing and everyhing locked up. When it wouldn't start up again, just keep making drive noises on the grey apple screen, I called it a night and shut down.

Encouragingly, neither Apple's hardware diagnostic CD nor disk utility saw any errors with the drive, and I could even boot the OS after running them. But being the old and jaded person I've now officially become, I shut down again and fired up the TechTool Deluxe CD I got with Apple care. It did its thing, stated that the volume needed repair, and it's been going at it ever since (noon or something close).

I'm not sure exactly how it does its repairing, because all this slowness is going on without the drive making a single noise. Good thing it's not my only computer anymore, or I'd be going nuts. Now it's more of a bonus if it actually helps, regardless of time it takes.

While that's cooking by itself (much like the chili con carne in the kitchen), I've been spending a good deal of my own time playing Lux. A seriously good Risk-like game it is. And I really should upgrade to the full version, I've easily got more fun than I deserve out of the demo.
