I should most definitely read high quality comics more often.

I'm not really paniced or depressed about the prospects of the coming movie adaptation, but I sure understand the skepticism and pessimism surrounding it a lot better now. If nothing else, at least the trailer for the film was what brought me to the comic, and that's worth something too.
First I saw the trailer a few times. Then I read a bunch of pessimistic comments on Slashdot. On to the Wikipedia entry about the comic. Then we jump a couple of months forward, landing in today when I completely by chance spotted it among the comics in a local game store. Swedish translation and all, but I think it's been well done.
In any case, I carried it home and could restrain myself for well, say, about 20 minutes, tops, before I started reading. Apart from breaks to go down and check the washing machines I read it non-stop and had a great time at it. It's a great story with a beginning, middle and, very importantly, a very good ending too.
I said I'm not as pessimistic as many others about the coming movie, but I do ask myself what the creators (of the film, Alan Moore has nothing to do with it and apparently dislikes what he's been shown) hope to add? This is a complete story, made in and for a medium that seems a perfect fit for it. I know it can work great as moving images too because it has a lot of cinematic feel to it (maybe I shouldn't call a great comic "cinematic"? Anyway ...), but it doesn't feel like anything is obviously improved or can be presented in a more interesting way by being made into moving pictures.
Seems like I'm joining the skeptics more with every word I write ...
I'm eager to widen my views
and become

of the many
disappointed with the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie
too.
