Watching NerdTV episode 005, Tim O'Reilly being interviewed. Seems like a sympathetic guy, who went and created the company he wanted and apparantly has managed to keep it pretty much the way he likes. No wonder he's liked.
I think watching NerdTV is about the most focused and attentive watching/listening experience I have. Listening to and watching two people talk for an hour about things they find relevant and can go deep into is pretty demanding if you want more out of it than just background noise. I even wear headphones instead of using speakers to hear better. I've paused the interview to write this, because as soon as I start doing much of anything at all I notice I'm not following the interview anymore and have no idea what's being said or why.
And that leads naturally to a conclusion that if I had a really interesting podcast or similar I'd need to be fully focused on it to get much at all out of it. So, I wouldn't have much advantage of being able to listen to it anywhere, because if I was doing too much at the same time or didn't have long enough periods of focusing time I wouldn't be able to follow it.
I guess it all just goes to show we all get most done when we're properly single-tasking.
And I just caught myself thinking "If this kind of thing was on TV I'd sure watch it a lot more". Then immediately realizing that this kind of thing could well be on TV, somewhere, somehow because I don't watch TV and I don't bother at all to find out if I'm missing anything ...
