I've been using RSS readers regularly for a while now, and I still can't decide if they're a help or a huge timesink. Not having to click reload all the time to catch new stuff on a few sites I frequent, sure, great. But being dripfed all updates on a whole bunch of other sites as well, finding tens of new updates every time I wake the computer? I never needed news about new gadgets which may or may not reach my shores, but now I at least browse the headlines before I mark all read. Time well spent?
Today I also downloaded the latest beta of NetNewsWire, a newsreader for OS X which I've heard a lot of good things about.
Clicky. Launch commencing.
Oh, hi. A boatload of pre-defined feeds and 250-odd new items. Where to start? What if they say something I might be interested in? I suspect I'm not the only one who thinks like this either.
And some of them did. Or do. It feels a bit odd to find interesting texts about getting things done in this way ...
What could I be doing instead?
What would I be doing instead if I didn't have these apps?
