Another baby-step has been taken toward me getting a programming/system development related paid pastime, in the form of spontaneous confirmation from my boss that he's going to talk to the employment agency people soon. It might look insignificant from the outside, but I won't be surprised if I suddenly find myself diving headfirst into planning and other stuff any week now. This could be the final step before things actually start taking shape (things including details such as hours, pay and finding out what exactly to do). We live in exciting times! And until the avalance begins there isn't much I can do about it anyway (yes, I did ask my boss about that as well) so I just try to enjoy the calm.

I made my second full home directory backup yesterday, and while the process is largely hands off (one copy command from the terminal, one "create archive" command from the context menu) there's definitely room for improvement. I should create a script of one kind or the other to do it for me for starters. And also consider what other improvements I could do. Archiving the whole directory takes an age or two, and it's mostly for convenience anyway. It's not like you gain much space-wise from archiving the music and photos that make up the vast majority of data. Still, it's nice to have backups of them done at least semi-regularly. Maybe I could/should do backups of the smaller, more important stuff (documents and email mainly) more often, and sacrifice system responsiveness for a few hours to make a complete backup once a month or so.

No drawings to post today (at least not right now) but I keep sketching things. I've done some more drawing on the Mac, and confirmed that doing it on the PC feels smoother and more responsive. That's not a general statement, that's the situation with my two computers (five year old PC, soon two year old laptop Mac) and the applications I run at the moment (plenty on the Mac, few on the PC).
