It is said that birds have some kind of behaviour gap in their reaction to predators.
If they spot one far away, they fly away.
If they spot one very close, they try to stay hidden and motionless.
But if the predator is at just the wrong distance, they start doing illogical things like repeated cleaning or other such things that don't help at all.
I definitely think humans are like birds in some aspects.
