The things that drive us ...
Or the things we use for drives ...
Whatever. While Niclas is having his own hard drive fun on the noteboard I've dropped one of dad's hard drives in Terminus and am running a virus scan right now. I half wish to find something rather more serious than the dialer I just removed, because then that computer could possibly come back to life the next time it's started.
Failing everything else, my instructions are to just grab the good stuff and nuke the place from orbit. It is, after all, the only way to be sure.
Funny thought really, that darn thing holds significantly less than my iPod, takes more space and makes more noise ...
Still scanning ... Nothing more found yet ...
Niclas has written a few things about how computers need care and (sometimes harsh, I'd say) love to work well, and I can't help associate it with this. Stuff like this never occured when I lived in the same house as Eddie ...
Well, not without me being very aware what caused it anyway ... There was a small network, and it worked. Today there's one more computer than back then, and sharing the connection to the net seems to be all that works in the whole place. General user knowledge and interest is dangerously low as well. Just imagine how much better everything would be with such a simple change as removing Kazaa and Internet Explorer ...
Right, the scan finished, nothing more found. I'll put it through a bit of Ad-Aware just for kicks, then perhaps Symantec's online scan just to get another opinion. Then I'm not sure what :-) ...
I have not yet located the perfect Totoro desktop picture. The selection of available pictures is actually pretty narrow. I have managed to find the classic bus stop poster picture, with more rain and background added to fill a desktop, but it's just made me realize that maybe the image isn't all that great for a background. More searching and/or thinking is needed. Wonder what the easiest way to get screenshots right out of the film is ...
<idea>

There, nice, grainy straight screenshot. Nice and simple, and I can get all I need where that came from. Perhaps a set of regularly changning desktops from the film would be fun ...
...
There, now I did that too. All while the aforementioned drive is being scanned for errors. Ad-Aware found a decent load of cookies and stuff, nothing alarming, pretty much as expected. Symantec's online scanning is next ... But perhaps that can wait until tomorrow, last time it took a few ages to finish. I still imagine I sleep better with the computer off ...
