Two short things I would have done differently if I'd got my Powerbook today (or had researched even more beforehand).
Unless you know you're going to go on plenty of long, electricity-free journeys with your laptop. Thinking you might doesn't count, that's what I did. Laptop batteries age even when not used, so getting a spare one with the idea of starting on it when the first one goes bad isn't a good idea either.
That is, don't get more than the base amount of memory from Apple unless brand and not having to put it in yourself is worth a bit to you (of course nothing beats the convenience of having it put in right away and covered in the same warranty). Memory can be had cheaper elsewhere, there's nothing magic about Apple's memory as long as you find out what kind you're after. I threw memory in with my order, and while I don't regret it at all memory from somewhere else would have worked just as well and saved me a bit.
