Gameplay is king.

Halo proves it.

You don't need creative levels as long as they're solid (design-wise) and otherwise keep out of the way and let your gameplay rule. Entire levels are reused, and let's not even talk about individual bits of architecture ...

But then, it's what you do within the levels that count, right? And Halo does combat. Fun, dynamic, thought-demanding combat. With vehicles. And sniper rifles.

Halo isn't revolutionary, it just gets all the gameplay elements into a great combination and keeps from ruining these elements by anything else. It's a very focused game in that aspect.

That's about that. Don't know what else to say that hasn't been said to death already. Might have more to say once I'm completely through it once, we'll see.

So, finsihed it. Solid all the way through, no more, no less. I know Bungie can do most of what's in there even better. In short, yeah, I'm looking forward to Halo 2 just like everyone else :-) ...
