For a month or so now (it started sometime when I was in Hong Kong) I've had more visitors than usual. A lot more visitors than usual actually. When I fist noticed I thought wow, way cool, and dove into my access logs to see if there were any clues what may have brought people here. What I saw made me a little suspicious. Not only were all the new visitors direct hits (as opposed to following a link or something), they were also universally identified as using Windows 98 and Internet Explorer 5.5 ... Vary curious, and of course all those "visitors" haven't left any kind of trace apart from hitting the index page. No noteboard entries, no comments on texts, no email, no nothing.

I contacted my hosting asking about it, and all they could conclude was that it doesn't seem to be a denial of service attack. Nobody else has been affected, and of course the vistors aren't many enough to bog this site down either. And the sources are nice and varied too, so it all looks like just a large influx of IE 5.5 users. If you have a theory about this (or if you happen to be a visitor on Windows 98 and IE :-) I'd love to hear it!

And now, the political activism of the weekend:
