• Computers. The following, which just happens to be the very same ones I use for everything else, are currently used:
  • One (1) mostly running Windows 98, the main advantages in this case being several common web browsers and a nice, comfortable 17 inch screen. Used for testing, database editing, and general data entry. Previously I did everything on this machine, before moving the server job over to the much more comfortable Linux environment.
  • One (1) running Mandrake Linux 8.2 is used for server duties and for editing the code. At first I edited the code using Gedit, out of old relentless habit. It wasn't by any means the perfect program, so I've just switched over to Kate which feels much nicer for my purposes.
• Software
  • MySQL does database duty with flying colours (would be kind of strange if it didn't, the same stuff drives Slashdot :-).
  • Whatever Apache version that came with Mandrake 8.2 serves up the php pages, lovingly processing and sending them out into the big world.
  • Opera for Windows is the browser mainly used for in-site work such as testing and data entry ...
  • ... with occassional guest appearances by Internet Explorer, Netscape and Konqueror for testing purposes.
  • Back in Windows, the nice Notepad replacement Metapad was used for code writing. Once over in Linuxland Gedit took over for a while, only to be replaced by the generally nicer and more suitable Kate.
• Initial sketching was done on that wonderful invention called paper, using another nice gadget called a pen (batteries not included, completely hand-powered!).
• My brain also comes in more handy than some people might think. Imagination never hurt anyone (okay, maybe it did, more than once too, but that's not the kind of imagination I'm after here, okay?).
