Laundry rooms are such a legendary source of conflicts in apartment buildings. I've had a few meetings with people in mine, but it's always been completely on the friendly and understanding side of things. Today I got some proof of things being a little less on the friendly side, but also a huge surprise on the positive side.
Since I managed to totally forget my booked time this Tuesday I was back in the laundry room today, and this old woman was there as well. There are plenty of them in this house, and I don't think I've talked to her before. Anyway, she was cleaning things up while her laundry was being cleaned, grumbling about how people just didn't care to keep the laundry room clean. Okay, my first experience of people being annoyed at eachother I thought and started my machines.
When I came down again to put the things into the dryer she was still there (or back again, but I got the feeling she may have been cleaning and doing other things the whole time). Anyway, when I took my things out and started drying them she gave me some helpful reminders and tips (like how to run the drying part of the washing machine program an extra time and things like that). I let the drying start and headed off for an hour and a half, buying food and doing other stuff.
When I came back down the room was empty and the dryer still running. I turned it off and opened.
Shock! Most of my stuff was gone!
I looked around. Some of it was on a bench next to the dryer, but not all of it. The rest was in another drying machine. The things that were still in the dryer were the thicker ones that took the longest to dry. That woman had taken care of everything, taking things out as the dried and moving things to the other machine. And then left before I showed up and could say thanks.
Laundry rooms can bring out many sides in people it seems :-) ...
