Open source is a nice thing, but doesn't it pretty much require people to have something else to do for money making? You can't make money right off the stuff you open after all. And you push out people who want to make a living on the same thing too? Can it be good in the long run and widely applied? Can't it end up hurting as much as piracy in the end? Once an OSS product ends up dominant nobody can make money there, the niche dies. Of course, it is just as revolutionary as they say ... And it can backlash/reach balance too I guess. Some things might be desirable to have from a source you pay, perhaps ...
