The call

Last night I finally read my first Lovecraft stories. Collected works on my Ipad, I was entertained and am ready for more.

What little I read last night - The unnamable, the origins of Necronomicon and the start of the Dunwich horror - felt surprisingly expected in tone and atmosphere. Not that the exact words used were what I had predicted - but the tones and themes and emotions very much were. I wonder if that just goes to show how deeply enshrined Lovecraft is in relevant parts of our culture.

I also wonder if it is very high praise for the ability of the Arkham horror boardgame's ability to successfully transfer the feel or the source material. That is where my most direct and frequent Lovecraft influence comes from.

Unsurprisingly, while reading in a dark room lit only by the Ipad I got some very nice visions of tentacles curling out of shadows and other appropriate images. Makes me want to create texts and images in the same vein.

We shall see.

I also had the best run of the year tonight and started on a little text about running inspired by it. That might get finished one day.

Into the darkness

H.P., is that you calling?
