Almost a day and a half after the first hints, I am not feeling nearly as ill as I feared I might. And even better considering how I felt when I got home late last night, heavy food, a beer or two too many and undeniable signs of illness inside. Still, I got up in the morning, had breakfast as usual and headed off to work reinforced by a painkiller. I kept wondering what I would feel like once it wore off, but it seems to have taken me through the worst part by itself. After work I was energetic enough to do a little bit of shopping on the way home, I cooked a proper dinner and have pretty much been stuffing myself all evening. Dinner, fruit and wonderful, wonderful "Italian chocolate" ice cream from Lejonet och Björnen. Lejonet och Björnen is a local ice cream company and their main store happens to be, say, five minutes walk from wher I live. The walk is pretty much all downhill, just to make it even easier. 49 crowns gets you halfa litre of smooth luxurious ice cream in any of a wide variety of flavours, worlds apart from Ben & Jerrys.
Along with all this I have gulped down pot after pot of Darjeeling first flush tea to keep warm, hydrated and take some edge off the aching lump in the back of my throat. I do not think I quite have a fever, but I am feeling warm and dry in that certain illness kind of way. And I find it quite comfortale to sit and drink tea, warm laptop on my lap, under a blanket and wearing three layers of shirts.
I had very little planned for the weekend, but now I will take it even easier and get a feel for this illness before I decide on what, if anything, to do. The "worst case" of staying on the couch, drinking tea and watching movies, does not seem like such a bad thing. If I feel more energetic I might clear out some more things, go and give some things to second hand and perhaps even go looking for a good cupboard.
But there is no rush in any case.
It is my first full weekend residing in Gothenburg.
Sit back
rest, recover
and enjoy the illness-edged weekend.
