I've slept two nights straight with Pigbox running without that disturbing me too much, what a victory for server uptime and fan patience! Of course, these two nights have been pretty late and not too long, I think I find it much harder to ignore the sound if I'm not tired enough. We'll see, at least this indicates I'll have no problem ignoring the sound if I can place the computer in a location that's just a little more separated from my bed area. That makes nine days of constant site availability.
Nine days, and counting ...
Hmmm, a nice little page tracking server uptime and maximum uptime ever could be nice, at least as long as everything keeps running from home ...
Oh, such a defeat! Henrik with family came by to visit (motivating us to do some much-needed cleaning up), and he cruelly runied further expansion of my uptime record by booting into Windows XP. Not that I tried to stop him by doing so or anything :-) ... I doubt that I'll have the patience and heaviness of sleeping to surpass that record without moving the computer first. Inside XP we did what I always do when I'm in XP: ran Windows update (which crashed the computer once before it got everything installed), sat around for a while and then went back to Mandrake. If I'm ever going to start using XP I really need to move it over to Terminus, but I'm not sure I can handle losing/reinstalling all my programs and stuff (of course, it's probably much less work and pain than it feels like, it always is). I wonder if there's an easy way to install XP on a different partition and extend the wonderful XOSL boot manager with another option so I can set things up in a more lesiurely way. It wouldn't be wrong at all to get some additional stability into Terminus' Windows environment, that's for sure ...
Not that I'm using it much now that Bonnie's here though. When we're both in front of computers she tends to be there while I plant myself in front of Pigbox or the laptop currently loaned from parents. And I have to say I find this setup nice, especially now when the laptop runs OS X :-) ...
