On my feet

I arrived in Gothenburg at noon on Tuesday. Work and associated activities have taken up most of my time. Despite that, walking around town is what has defined the days for me. I have gone on several long-ish walks in new areas and feel that I have got much more of a feel for the city as a result. Gothenburg has now gone from a place I assumed had a lot more to it to a place I can easily imagine myself living in. Lots of little shops, cafés, sloping streets and nice mixes of buildings, all clad in springlike green, does a lot to bring out character.

Evening entertainment in the hotel room.

Between last night's drinking, today's normal wakeup time and lots of customer socialization, I have spent much of the day feeling a bit tired and off. So after work I went and fetched my timing chip and other things for Göteborgsvarvet. In all, it was a nice sunny walk somewhere around 12 kilometers, and it finally made me feel a bit normal again. Plus it got me the bread depicted above, which became a nice evening meal to balance the recent beer and other stuff.

Tomorrow will be a much more normal day at work, and once that is over it's time for the year's real exercise on Saturday. Yay, excitement!

The place handing out timing chips and the other things for Göteborgsvarvet is right next to the start and finish areas. Most things are set up already, so when I fetched my things audio systems were being tested, things were being rigged and even a few stands and shops were open. It was as if the whole event was on its way from a winter of dormancy, rapidly waking up to full force on Saturday. The guide line has already been painted all around town as well. So, when I approaced the start/goal area I first passed some early parts of the course. Then, I found myself walking right along the last few hundred meters up to the stadium and finish line.

Yes, it did quicken the pulse a little bit.

Saturday is going to be a great day, I have decided on that.

And all I need to do before that is rest and store all kinds of strength I can think of. That bed over there is probably a good place to do so for a while ...
