An exercise in streaming

I'm trying something new; I'm writing this with the screen turned off, on Pomum, eyes closed . I felt a certain want to get thoughts down, but sitting down after a day of work and a good movie made me realise I'm not that hungry for more screen-time right now.

Hence this little attempt. I wonder just how many errors I'll be correcting afterwards ...

It's been another good day.

Pretty good week too, come to think about it. At work things started ... working in a pleasing way and the hours flew off as quick as usual. After that there was some running - not fast, not too slow, then food and a film, then this. I think it's working pretty well so far, but then I haven't really checked. I know I'm not completely off the whole time, but there's no telling about all those letters which aren't f and j until you do look.

Oh and I'm pretty sure that was a proper save too, but really I think my fingers move about a bit more than they should, starting to pause in non-optimal positions. Got to bring out Atypetrainer again ...

After Okami, I've got a few servings of Mario kart down, the night before last I had a little Boom blox and last night I suddenly sat down and made progress in Zak & Wiki as well. So i think that's the next game I'll try to tackle. Puzzle solving is good for you! Goes well with algorithm design and programming ... i can tell myself.

Still writing eyes closed, screen off. And I kind of like it. It feels focused, stream-based and lo-fi. It makes me want to become an even better typist, and it makes me feel close to the keys. Plus it's not often during a day that i sit back and rest my eyes like this especially not while still typing ...

Well, now I'm sure I'm making a lot of mistakes, but the good thing is in this way i keep on writing instead of pausing and correcting myself too much. That's got to be good for flow and speed, if not for correctness. But I've practised mostly correctness in Atypetrainer anyway, so a bit of variation can't hurt.

I'm starting to think the same thing about my exercising too, that it probably would be a great thing to start varying my running a bit more. Not just longer runs, but shorter and faster too. And interval training. I'm thinking semi-seriously about trying a really long run on Saturday to see how that feels, and if that doesn't kill me outright it seems like a good start in a more varied running program.

Or maybe I'll just start running longer on average, we'll see. That's what's historically happened. but it's got to stop somewhere after all.

Gee, I hope I don't accidentally lose focus of the writing window or something ... that would kind of suck ...

Heh, i think i missed the command key for a few save attempts there. Improve, improve ... practise makes perfect ...

So, where was I? Yes, running. Variation, perhaps even a less strict schedule. It's always mostly been focused on getting out regularly for me, the more regular the better and the faster the average time the better too. Wanting to get better at, usually, the same round all the time tends to leave you very narrow in your focus, for good and bad. Good because it can be pretty zen-like and nice. Bad because, hey, it's single-minded, focuses too much on one distance and optimising that, and doesn't improve me as much for other distances. Plus, the specific distance is meaningless anyway, as hard as I have to admit it when motivating myself to pick up pace during the last few kilometers.

I'm kind of curious what I'll do, training-wise, after this year's Göteborgsvarv. I am in my best shape ever, and I love to be, but in a way I think I'd be happier if I wasn't quite so strict with my routine, and/or if I varied my rounds and distances a bit more. Then again, I'm still more afraid that I'll totally lose all routine if I slack off, much more so than that I'll overdo it, get injured or otherwise wear myself out. I think I've got enough sense, not to mention a lot of sensible people around me, to avoid that. But you never know for sure. So, after this year's Göteborgsvarv, I might ease up a little.

Perhaps. If it doesn't motivate me to go even higher of course. Never know about that either. But somehow I think I might feel a bit pressured if I do well this year and then sign up for the next. And not just the good, motivating pressure, but the stressful oh-I-really-should-improve-myuself-even-more-next-year version. Linda keeps reminding me that training should be fun, and I try to listen to that seriously.

I like to think I'm a good listener.

One fun thing about this: I don't think it's really affecting my writing speed. Probably a lot more mistakes and a lot less time spent correcting them before the text is finished, but no great difference in actual typing speed or word per minute count. My fingers don't feel like they're moving much faster than usual, but surely no slower either. So I guess my typing's decent.

But, again, I haven't checked the correctness results yet.

It's been a great exercise though. Kind of a new way of typing.

Note on position and environment: I'm typing this on Pomum, sitting cross legged with the laptop on my lap, seated on the living room couch, I've got the lights on in the room and am listening to the slight fan noise of Pomum and the wind outside. Plus the occasional hard-drive sound. Cosy. And the odd sounds from next door pipes and movements.

Today's product modification idea: cutting custom patterns in your Macbook pro's lid. Not just laser engraving, but cutting straight through so they light up nicley in the dark. That'd be cool, right?

All right, I'm going to open my eyes and see just what this has done to my spelling. It's been great fun! Then perhaps there'll be a bit of Wii before bedtime.

Right, three, two, one ... open eyes!

Post-looking notes

Damn, I hit caps-lock somewhere near the start. I didn't want to look quite that old-school and shouty ... Apart from all the capitalisation I had to fix because of that, and a few sections where I did end up off by one key for a while I think it worked very well. I'll be sure to do this again!
