Iphone applications

Installed

This is what I've got installed on my phone (and Ipod touch) right now. Every application listed is free, or at least was when I got it.

Yes, it's a short list. I like to keep my launch screens nice and tidy.

Air sharing

One of my least used applications, Air sharing lets your phone put up a little file server on your wireless network. Every now and then it saves me from situations where I'd wish desperately for a USB stick or have to tideously email things to myself.

Evernote

Evernote is a general note-taking application available for Mac, Windows, Iphone and a couple of other mobile platforms. In itself, the Iphone application feels pretty clunky, a little slow on its feet and not too nice to look at. But one of the key things about Evernote is that it syncs all your installations, so you always have your notes available no matter where you wrote them (including a decent web interface). They have a good track record of slowly but surely improving their software too, so I'm sure the Iphone client will just keep getting more useful (it's already improved notably since it was first released). I use Evernote both home and at work, and every now and then it really is great to have access to all my notes on the go as well. So it's a bit like Air sharing in usage.

IM+ lite

My third rarely used application, IM+ is a multiprotocol chat client. The first time I used it I was surprised at how limited instant messaging feels when you can't do it in parallel with using some other application. You connect, you stay put.

Strange.

It has had crashes, and I rarely use it, but it seems more stable nowadays and it, again, comes in really handy every now and then.

Morocco

The game of black and white pieces often known as Othello or Reversi. The AI isn't too smart so I usually win and instead get into a fun mode of trying to figure out ways to maximise my score. It doesn't spend forever thinking either.

A perfect game for those really short breaks.

Netnewswire

The RSS reader. Works so well that I rarely even open the Mac version anymore, except to add or remove feeds.

Shozu

Lets you snap photos (or pick existing ones from the camera roll) and upload them straight to Flickr or any of a bunch of other services. Works well, all you need to remember is to not switch applications until the file upload has finished!

Twitterific

To view the feeds I follow on Twitter. I'm a very low-intensity Twitter user, so Twitterific does exactly everything I need and looks nice while doing it.

Weekoty

To be read as "week of the year", this is a small application whose purpose it is to inform you of which week of the year it is, which week a date belongs to and/or which dates go into a certain week number.

I can rarely keep track of week numbers, and they're used often enough that this is another application rarely launched yet much appreciated when it finally is.

Wikipanion

A wikipedia browser. I love Wikipedia, and Wikipanion does a really good jopb of squeezing it into the limited screen estate.

Zenbe lists

Last but certainly not least, Zenbe lists is actually one of my most used applications. Netnewswire is the only dowloaded application which might rival it in usage.

Zenbe lists simply lets you create and manage todo lists. Add things, sort them, check them off, delete them. It lets you have multiple lists too. Even better, it syncs with a server and lets you access and handle your lists through a very nice web interface. You can even share lists with other people online, but just having access to your lists with a large screen and a keyboard to type on is surprisingly useful. (Not to mention having your todos safe on a server if your phone should die.)

No longer installed

Stanza

Pretty nice little application for reading books. Nice interface, and pretty nice integration with same-named desktop software to get books in most formats across. But the way things were reformatted to suit the small screen was a lot more functional than pleasing to look at. More importantly, I just don't have too many texts I want to read on my phone right now. If that changes, Stanza may well come back (unless I come across something else which does the same thing but with nicer reformatting).
