I live!

And then, it was done.

My first ever Göteborgsvarv took me two hours, two minutes and 36 seconds, a time I think I'm pretty happy with, all things considered. (I'm still churning around various factors in my head, hence the apparant uncertainity.) Best of all, I managed to keep a pretty even pace and didn't feel ill or dangerously weak at any time.

A few favourite encouragements along the track were hearing Tubthumping when approaching Älvsborgsbron, them man from a taxi company who sounded totally earnest and encouraging despite being all alone in a shadowy corner of the track, the people giving out raisins and random other people who seemed to have a great time.

I felt really tired but perfectly normal after finishing, but a little while later I got some scintillating scotoma. I've got those a few times before and while I'm lucky enough to never get a severe migraine I do get headachey and benefit from painkillers. On the tramride back to the hotel I started feeling dizzy, and with two painkillers in total I didn't get any serious aches this time either. I could go out with the others and have dinner as planned, and I nothing worse than stiff muscles and lingering cold to deal with in the coming days.

I am, of course, looking forward to improving my time next year. I never perform my very best the first time I run a given track ...
