Yesterday I thought up and created a new user interface for making certain administration easier in the software we create at work. it felt really good and made me a little bit excited. So now I'm trying to gain enough distance to it over the weekend that I can make decent judgements about improvements and changes on Monday.
Kill your darlings and all that.
I also did some really wise investments after work, but 33 to 66 percent of them will probably end up as presents so I won't yet tell what they were ...
My very own girlfriend is away for the weekend, so the things above are what I plan to spend and am spending my time with. We're having a sunny and windy autumn day, and I shocked my body by running before breakfast. It was nice, if predictably slow and unenergetic.
If I haven't gained back all burned calories by this lunch I definitely will be able to do so tonight with plenty of sitting still, beer and ice cream.

Fom sent me an email saying they missed me since I disconnected my Fonera router, inviting me to fill out a survey and come back to the community. I disconnected the router when trying to diagnose some strange disconnection problems I had with my wireless network, and since I never actually use the router for anything I didn't reconnect it afterwards. But I sure like Fon and the whole sharing idea, so now I'm trying to think if there's a nice place I can connect it and also perhaps get some use out of it.
While in town around noon I dropped by the local Apple reseller (the one with lots of laptop bags and headphones but not a single computer in their display windows). They had a 24-inch iMac I could gawk at and also an iPod classic which felt kind of slow and awkward to use. Part of that was possibly from it being encased in a huge plexiglass block giving me no way of using the scroll wheel in anywhere near a normal hand position. Things didn't feel as zippy as they could be, but I wonder if I would have thought of it at all if I hadn't read similar complaints before. In any case they were very sold out, waiting for more deliveries of everything but the new shuffles, and there also seem to be a few problems with the new nanos and classics. My new-iPod-hunger remains low but steady and the new-iMac hunger got ever so slightly larger.
Writing on the balcony is sweet, but Pomum's screen brigthness really is horrific in daylight. That way I'm lucky there isn't more direct sun right now. The wind seems to be rough on the flowers but I don't mind. Last night I kept the balcony door and a few windows open and slept under the thickest covers we have. Yum!
After letting the air in like that all night resulted in surprisingly small temperature drops I was hit by insight and checked the radiators. Oh, that's pretty hot. Off you go. I like my autumn sleep temperatures low. And it's suddenly no wonder the computer room often felt warmer than I thought it should be. I'm trying to remember when Ellen talked about turning up the radiators (I seem to have the higher body temperature) but I can't recall exactly. I hope I haven't terrorised them with cold air too often.
I just re-read the first Sandman collection book. Once I go through the second I think it'll be about time to go on with the third. But it's nice to draw it out and make them last ...
