The new touch iPod feels somehow un-Apple-y.

It's completely natural when you look at the lineup. Take iPhone, remove phone, drop price a bit, release to general joy.

Isn't that kind of too simple and uncreative?

The others you know exactly where you've got, and if you want one you're pretty certain why and why you prefer it to the others. But with the touch you get a flashier interface and a bunch of new features, yet much less storage space, and not quite all the new features.

Another strange thing: you can get it with more storage space than the phone, making the decision whether you want touch or phone even less clear cut.

I also tried/could not help to think about it as a PDA. But when the phone's dropped out it's starting to feel very obvious that, at least for now, the device is a PDA with a huge number of restrictions.

Here's a theory:

I'm not quite in the target audience of the iPod touch, and I'm bothered by the fact that there's no perfect spot for it in a left-to-right line of pods.

It's not like Apple to confuse me like this.

The new nano grew on me pretty quickly though.

Not letting people use any sound for ringtones? Sucky. But the editor and the whole deal with making ringtones out of songs you've bought I can understand and kind of like.

i'M finished now

On Monday I used UbiSoft's web support to state that The Settlers DS is unplayable and demand a working replacement. Since Tuesday, my "question" has been marked as "on hold".

I do not know if this is good or bad, but I will not wait with baited breath and high hopes.

The non-digital, meatspace extensions of me have been feeling vaguely and varyingly ill during the past 48 or so hours. Not to mention feeling quite tired despite actually being rather well rested. That I nodded off while watching the iPod introduction probably says a lot to a few of you (but not as much as some of you might think!).
