The 1812 overture

August 04, 2023

I read somewhere that the 1812 overture is considered by some to be sort of pop classical music or beginner's classical music - an easy in to a field much deeper and wider.

I will take it. I just watched two episodes of Netflix' incarnation of Cowboy bebop, more fiber is good fiber.

Besides, any almost sixteen-minute piece of music which just grabs me and carries me along is allowed to ignore any criticism.

I distinctly recall finding a bunch of performances of the 1812, sorting by length, descending, and finding my favourite by listening to the top performances in the list. Shortened versions just do not cut it.

My way in? V for Vendetta. How could I not want to hear the whole piece after hearing it used in the film?

Has it been a gateway into other classical music? Not really. I do not seek it out very much, but I do not avoid it either. Perhaps I should explore Spotify a bit and see what it digs up for me?

Big, orchestral stuff goes well with work … and visualizers.

Roll credits … ?

Speaking of going out with a bang, this post marks another 100 days offloaded.

I will now try very hard to not feel the need to keep posting every day.

I will now try to not post every day.

I will not post every day.

Probably.

But it has been great writing exercise, and usually only better the more relaxed I feel about it.
