Keynote sidenotes

June 06, 2023

It was very nice of Apple to time their WWDC keynote so that it occurred the day before a public holiday here in Sweden. Actual real life prevented me from fully immersing myself all day (which was probably all good), but it is fun to let things sink in a bit. That, and try to listen to all the podcast and other material the keynote generates. We will add more to the pile when we record Björeman // Melin // Åhs later tonight, in what will most likely not be the shortest episode of the year.

The best surprise was that Johan and Jezper made a very special headset episode of Johan's recently started do-not-call-it-a-podcast podcast feed.

I let the whole thing wash over me along with some beer and a nice group of people in the Kodsnack Slack, and I feel (just like everyone else, I assume) like there are a million details and nuances I missed and will hopefully catch up with later. And today it struck me that yes, there is still a whole WWDC week of sessions being dropped. So there is a literal ton of material for me to dig into, should I find myself having time to spare.

Speaking of the social aspect, Mastodon performed great as a companion and comment on the goings-on. I have got a great deal of interesting things surfaced from Apple people, Apple-near people, as well as non-fruit people. My favourite interaction was a short exchange with Jeff Minter, which left me thinking Apple should ship him all the hardware he needs, then pay him to simply create and experiment with VR and AR experiences. I want to work in AR with a dynamically adjustable amount of Minter trippiness going on all around me!
