Am at dad's placed, feeling confused and a bit satisfied at the same time. Went here with the intention to have another go at getting his network and internet connection sharing up and running again, and to my utter surprise I actually solved the problem this time!
Hmmm, of course "solved" feels like a lie. I made the problem go away somehow, but I really didn't solve anything. "Solve" implies you had an idea and actively did something that removed a problem, and that sure isn't me in this case. I was just repeating things I think I'd tried before when the inexplicable problem that shouldn't have been there in the first place suddenly got bored and went out for lunch or something ...
So there I was, with dad's desktop suddenly connecting to the internet for the first time in more than a month. I crossed my fingers and re-installed the network card I'd pulled out a while earlier. It still worked! I set up everything the way we'd wanted it to all along and installed the connection sharing software.
Said prayer.
It still worked!
Sometimes I wish I understood computers ...
The header and footer text gets very very wide in 1400*1040, that's for sure ...
Oh well, now it finally works anyway! I'd better get home before it decides to stop ...
